Kenneth B. Brewer

A. & J. Keogh Square Piano

Date: Ca. 1855

Serial #:  2469

Keyboard compass: 77 notes  6 1/3 octaves

Key covering:  All original ivory in excellent condition; boxwood key fronts and ebony sharps.

Cabinet:  Rosewood case with rounded front corners; plain molding around bottom of case.  Octagonal curved tapered legs in rosewood; inverted pedal lyre.  The best rosewood veneer used in this cabinet.  Also has a very nice cut out music rack which acts as a support for the lid of the piano.

Dimensions: 74" x 34 ˝",   36 ˝" from top of case to floor.

Action: Early version of the more typical square action except it has grand style overhead dampers turned sideways.  Full cast iron plate with original décor in good shape.  Flat strung with separate small bass bridge.

Very good overall condition and a good example of a piano of this period with beautiful original keys.  Unusual support of the top by the music rack.
