Cabinet: Beautiful rosewood case with all original finish in perfect condition. Square front corners with recessed panels on each side. Solid rosewood slat type sliding music desk. Legs are massive 12 sided tapered with acanthus leaves around the top. Gothic style pedal lyre. Dimensions: 34" x 72", 36 ½ " from floor to top of case. Action: Early type square action with intermediate levers to lift hammer shanks; original hammers in good condition; overhead grand type dampers; two pedals: damper and moderator; pedals are painted black iron with a brass medallion on the end; they are decorated with gold trim and have mother-of-pearl inlays on them. Immaculate condition of exterior and interior in good restorable condition. Beautiful full cast iron plate inside with a music lyre and herald trumpet cast into it. Obscure maker must have been a relation to Jonas Chickering; the design is very similar to Jonas's Chickering's firms instruments. Low serial number but probably very few made and certainly very few exist today. |
