Cabinet: Rosewood with elegant moldings and recessed molded panels on each side of front; open grills underneath each keyboard; octagonal tapered legs and early style open cut music rack. Finish is somewhat dry and cracked but is presentable. Dimensions: 53" x 27" , 33" from top of case to floor. Action: Two manuals, two sets of reeds, 8' pitch on bottom keyboard and 4' pitch on upper keyboard; has 4 stops, three of which control different volume levels by opening or closing swells over the reeds. The fourth is an upper to lower unison coupler. The stop names are: Principal Forte, Diapason Forte, Coupler, and Divided Swell. Awaiting full restoration; probably no more than 100 two-manual melodeons are in existence, of which this model was the top model of its day. A great variety of combinations of tonalities can be obtained by the use of the stops. This instrument will have a rich and powerful sound not usually expected from a melodeon. |
