Cabinet:
Hepplewhite style of mahogany & satinwood with intricate inlaid banding; oval metal enameled nameplate; four small (1 ¾" square) tapered legs connected with a wishbone stretcher.

Dimensions:
23" x 63" - 33" from floor to top of case.

Action: Early English with escapement; overhead lever type dampers operate with hand stop on left. Possible knee lever missing; bi-strung except top octave which is tri-strung.

Very good overall appearance.  Old finish (possibly original) is good & wood color & grain show nicely.  Has all original ivory and sharps; almost all original strings are present; dampers have been recovered at some point; original brass casters and hardware.  One of the best unrestored Astors left.  Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe both owned Astor pianos.  George Astor was a brother to John Jacob Astor.
