Collard Square Piano Date: Ca. 1844 Serial #: 42931 Keyboard compass: 75 notes 6 1/3 octaves Key covering: Very good all original ivory with boxwood fronts; all original ebony sharps. Cabinet: Empire styling with crotch mahogany and rosewood veneer; rounded front case corners. Hexagonal tapered legs with ionic capitals. Nameboard has cutout fretwork grills. Dimensions: 29 ½" x 71 ½", 35" to top of case. Action: Early English with escapement; overhead vertical type dampers with wires and levers underneath. One single bridge. Iron hitchpin plate on right. Full soundboard. Beautiful mahogany veneers; will finish up to be a beautiful period piece and a good example of English piano building from this era. Collard and Collard was considered the number two piano builder in England, right behind Broadwood. |
