Chickering Square Piano Date: Ca. 1873 Serial #: 40743 Keyboard compass: 85 note 7 octave Key covering: All original ivory in excellent condition with ebony sharps. Cabinet: Rosewood case with scalloped molding and double moldings around the bottom of the case and a single at the top. Cabriole legs have fruit carved on them; open music rack. Overall, the best quality case made. Has slight char on right rear leg and part of case due to being too close to a stove or fire at one time. Ebonized finish can be preserved or refinished. Dimensions: 81 ½ " x 41 ½", 38 ½" from top of case to floor. Action: Late American square piano action with overhead dampers in rack with extensions for bass notes. Full heavy cast iron plate with agraffes in treble section; over strung bass on two bridges. Excellent restorable condition; a very fine example by a top builder! |
