Bradbury Square Piano

Date: Ca. 1867

Serial #:  10979

Keyboard compass:      88 notes  7 1/3 octaves

Keyboard covering: New off-white synthetic naturals, original ebony sharps.

Cabinet: Rosewood with bottom molding; cut out music rack; carved cabriole legs with shells and grapes carved on them.  To be refinished.

Dimensions:  82"  x  40 ½",    38 ½" from top of case to floor.

Action:  Typical late American square action of the period; with overhead damper levers in a rack.  Full heavy cast iron plate.  Damper rack is also cast iron for extra weight.

The interior of this instrument is above average quality for its time.  Built under the supervision of F.G. Smith who bought the company the year this piano was built (1867).  Where this piano excels is in the carving on the legs with clusters of grapes and a shell motif on them.
