Beethoven Square Piano Date: Ca. After 1880 Keyboard compass: 85 notes 7 octaves Keyboard covering: original celluloid in very good condition; ebony sharps. Cabinet: Plain stained ebony finish; to be redone. Single molding around bottom of case; has best quality cut out music rack with carved cabriole legs. Dimensions: 77" x 39" Action: Typical late American square action; has full cast iron plate with a sort of capo bar cast into the treble section. This typically gives a much stronger and brighter treble. A late square piano built by the notorious marketing "crook", Daniel F. Beatty. He sold pianos and organs through the mail with often times false advertising. He advertised a piano of this type for usually $1000, but marked down to $300, but now on special sale for only $100! Has average exterior with far above average interior. Should restore to play as well as many bigger name brands, and has the same basic look as many squares much more expensive. |
